Hollow Marsh Meadow | Somerset Wildlife Trust

Tor Hole Fields | Somerset Wildlife Trust

Ubley Warren | Somerset Wildlife Trust
Ubley Warren bears the scars of an industrial past with low gullies cut into the limestone rock called rakes and deep mine shafts featuring in its landscape; this is reflected in the nationally scarce lead tolerating plants which are found here.

GB Gruffy | Somerset Wildlife Trust
"Gruffy” or “groovy” ground is the Mendip name for land with numerous mineshafts, and other mining hollows, such as those covering most of the reserve. Lead was mined here in the 16th and 18th centuries and the work of the miners is still apparent today. GB Gruffy is a wonderful flower rich grassland and is also very good for butterflies and other grassland insects.

Lynchcombe | Somerset Wildlife Trust
Lynchcombe is a flower rich grassland in a dramatic setting high up on the Mendip escarpment with panoramic views across the Somerset Levels.

Lots Grassland | Somerset Wildlife Trust
An upland area of heathland known as Limestone Heath which is an uncommon habitat on the Mendip Hills and is great for heathland flowers. Another unusual feature for this limestone area is the appearance of springs which makes parts of the site wet all year round.

Cheddar Complex | Somerset Wildlife Trust
Three SWT reserves make up the Cheddar Complex; Black Rock, Long Wood and Velvet Bottom. The complex offers a chance to explore the desolate beauty of the Mendip Hills. The remote landscape is fractured with traditional stone walls and offers panoramic views across the Levels and Moors. The area is famous for its caving and the spectacular Cheddar Gorge which runs close to the reserves.
