I noticed yesterday that Lara's guide to a Day out in London for £10 involved a £5 pizza at Frano Mancas. When I went to their website, I found that actually they've got about 70 locations across the UK (40 in London, but still lots in other places) - including Bath and Bristol, which is handy because I was looking for somewhere to eat out in Bristol tomorrow night.
The only snag about the £5 pizza offer though is that it ends at the end of January - which isn't far away, and doesn't include another weekend. So if you want to grab a sourdough pizza - any pizza from the menu - for juts £5, you need to try and plan a trip there for the next couple of days.
To get your £5 pizza, fill in this form and then follow the instructions there to download their app (or they say, you can use the website version if you don't want to download more to your phone, so I've opted for that and all the messaging speaks to me as if I'm on the "real" app). Then when you're at the restaurant you'll need to log into the app and redeem your voucher to show your server when you ask for the bill. It's one voucher per person though, so if you're going in a couple, be sure to both download the app.
Some of the locations allow you to book in advance but their website says they will always welcome walk-ins. Franco Manca source their ingredients from small Napoli suppliers and hand knead their 18th century sourdough starter bases every day. 18th Century! They call it "slow fast food" as it takes a lot of background work to make something so tasty.
With a delicious looking range of pizzas from £6.95 even when they're not running an offer, along with nibbles, salads, other mains and desserts, I'm thinking Frano Manca could become my new favourite restaurant chain. Wine is from £21 a bottle though, so you might not be drinking much of that if you're looking for a cost effective night out. They also have a kid's menu (with pizzas from £6.95 I thought they might not bother) which is £8.25 for a pizza, drink and a scoop of ice cream. Their loyalty card scheme - all run through their app - allows you to get your 7th pizza for free, but that threshold is lower for Students.
