1 Lombard Street, the iconic spot in the heart of the City, has just introduced a Sunday roast as of September 8th, and it’s one for the books. Set in a historic former banking hall with towering marble pillars and a stunning skylight, this place makes every bite feel extra special. It's literally across the road from Bank, or a short walk from Monument or Mansion House.
We began with a Bloody Mary and some snacks; two Colchester Rock oysters followed by a short rib croquette which came with an amazing mustard mayonnaise. Next, a shellfish cocktail - a mix of langoustines, prawns and crabs and the best marie rose sauce I've ever tried. I just loved how traditionally this was served. We also tried the smoked salmon served with rye, capers and dill. Each dish was more delicious than the last.
It was then time for the roast - and oh! We both went for the beef sirloin, but there are also options for pork or celeriac. All of these come with roast potatoes, Yorkshires, vegetables... and also bottomless gravy! We got some additional sides too; cauliflower cheese and crispy pigs in blankets. Your £35 roast also comes with a choice of drinks - we chose red wine, but there's also champagne and wine available.
We of course then finished with sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel and ice cream – the perfect sweet ending and my favourite dessert.
Overall this is a brilliant Sunday lunch, definitely up there with some of the best that we've had in London. Great value in a beautiful setting; 1 Lombard Street has a luxury vibe and the decor is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely somewhere to dress up if you felt like it. And if Sunday roasts aren’t your thing, they also serve brunch on weekends.
