Prior's Coppice | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust
A woodland reserve teeming with wildlife and ancient atmosphere, Prior’s Coppice is a relic of the wildwood that once covered all of Leicestershire and Rutland. When you step beneath the trees, you can feel how old this remnant of woodland is. Some of the trees are several hundred years old and centuries of management have led to an ideal habitat for birds, beasts and butterflies (and botanists!).

Launde Woods | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust
Made up of two of the most ancient woodlands in Leicestershire, stepping into Launde Woods is like stepping back in time. Oak, ash, hazel and field maple dominate Big Wood to the west, whilst Park Wood to the east was once a Forestry Commission plantation. The atmosphere is awe-inspiring, with a feeling of peace and grandeur.

Tilton Railway Cutting | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust
Tilton Railway Cutting is a little slice of ancient history! A real-life Jurassic world (except with no dinosaurs), this reserve is managed as much for its geology as for it’s wildlife, 200 million years of history can be seen in the exposed rock layers.

Wymondham Rough | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust
A delightful meeting of old and new, people and wildlife, Wymondham Rough is a mosaic of woodland, ponds, grassland and marshes – with a length of disused canal thrown in!

Great Merrible Wood | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust
Bluebells, badgers and woodland birds: what more could you want from this beautiful woodland? Adjacent to Eye Brook Reservoir, the reserve is bursting with wildflowers, mammals and birds, and is the perfect place to enjoy a wander. Test your birdsong skills in the spring or challenge your fungi ID knowledge in the autumn.

Merry's Meadows | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust
Merry’s Meadows is one of the most diverse and flower-rich grasslands in Leicestershire and Rutland – a must visit for budding botanists, casual naturalists or anyone wanting to experience the sights, smells and sounds of a meadow in full bloom. With some rare and interesting flower species in the spring and summer, and fungi in the autumn, a few visits may be required!

Cribb's Meadow | Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust
Cribb's Meadow is a small but intricate mosaic of diverse habitats, made up of grasslands, two ponds and a disused railway line, where scrub and mature trees are taking back the land. A walk here is quiet and peaceful, especially in the spring when birdsong fills the air. If you look closely in the spring, you might be lucky enough to see great crested newts dancing in the ponds.
